Pharmacy Profession
Pharmacy has historic roots as the art and science of preparing and dispensing medications. While this traditional role is still a viable role for pharmacists, the preparation of medicines has transitioned in large part to the pharmaceutical industry.
Dispensing of medicines has increasingly become more centralized and automated, with many of the tasks formerly performed by pharmacists being done using technology or delegated to pharmacy technicians.
The provision of drug-related information to other healthcare professionals and the public and disease-state management programs to assure the proper use of medicines has become a more important role for pharmacists.
It is now recognized that medication-use is a complex and problem-prone process, in which errors that result in injury to patients can occur at each step.
This process includes prescribing, transcribing, interpretation of the order, preparation and dispensing, and administration and monitoring.
Pharmacy practice therefore involves the review and interpretation of prescription orders; the compounding, labeling, and dispensing of drugs and devices; drug product selection and medication-use evaluation (MUE); patient monitoring and intervention; and the provision of information related to use of medications and non-pharmacological modalities.
The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) describes the mission of pharmacy as “the profession responsible for the appropriate use of medications, devices, and services to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes.”
Department Of Pharmacy
To achieve higher professional education and aspiration to become a true professional is the right of every young student. Keeping this objective in mind many universities and colleges are working in the developed as well as underdeveloped countries.
Unfortunately this trend of operating in education sector as a private venture was never dreamed of in Pakistan. Since last few years private sector has very successfully contributed to the expansion of education and has greatly fulfilled the aspirations of the young students and their parents. This phenomenon however, did not spring up in the scientific education.
The number of young Pakistanis who pass F.Sc. and B.Sc. examinations goes into tens of thousands. Those who pass this examination securing very high grades have to often pass through the depression and frustration of not getting admission and entering into a profession of their choice.
As such a full generation of young students is not only at a total loss as individuals but also a big national loss. Keeping the national needs, aspirations of the new generation, the wishes of the parents and the national demand, the LCPS came into existence in 1997.
The idea of starting the college of pharmacy was highly appreciated by the people associated with the profession of pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry. The LCPS is the brain child of some of the senior most pharmacists of the country, who have been in this profession for the last 30 to 35 years and who have gone through the progress and uplifting of the profession with all the pains and pleasures of the achievements during this mission. It is the ambition of the college management to produce Doctor of Pharmacy of highest caliber, who would be comparable to any graduate of pharmacy from any part of the world.
The syllabi have been revolutionized and every effort has been made to make sure that the graduates of this college are second to none. The college management will not only ensure that the students are professionally competent but will also make sure that the students are trained to fulfill the moral, social, ethical and national demands of the society and the country.
